Remove the vocals from a song and keep the instrumental

Upload a song and take the vocals out: you get two MP3 files, an instrumental track (no vocals) for karaoke, singing or playing along, and the isolated vocals (a cappella) for studying the melody or remixing.

This vocal remover uses Demucs, Meta's open-source neural network, on our server. It is free, needs no account and works from your phone or your computer.

The tool opens right here in your browser when the page finishes loading.

How to remove the vocals from a song

  • Upload the song: press “Choose an audio file” and pick an audio file (MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG and other formats) up to 30 MB and 5 minutes long.
  • Separate it: press “Separate vocals and instrumental”. It takes a little longer than the song itself: about 7 minutes for a 5-minute song. If you allow it, your browser tells you when it is done.
  • Listen: “Play preview” plays both tracks together, and you can turn each one up or down.
  • Download: “Download instrumental” and “Download vocals” give you each track as a 256 kbps MP3.

Instrumental and isolated vocals: what to expect

Demucs splits the song into vocals, drums, bass and other instruments, and here everything that is not voice goes into the instrumental. It is not perfect: depending on the mix, traces of the lead vocal, the backing vocals or the reverb may remain, and the isolated vocals may carry a little of the band.

The volume sliders only change what you hear on the page: the downloads are the two tracks exactly as they come out of the separation. For a custom mix, such as the song without the guitar, use the stem splitter, which splits it into 6 tracks and downloads your mix as a WAV.

What a vocal remover is good for

  • Singing: make your own karaoke track or rehearse with the original band behind you.
  • Playing: play the vocal line on your instrument over the instrumental, or get the chords with Chord AI and its vocal filter.
  • Studying the voice: listen to the isolated vocals to learn the melody, the lyrics or the harmonies.
  • Producing: use the a cappella or the instrumental in a remix or a cover.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove the vocals from a song without installing software?

Right here: choose the audio with “Choose an audio file”, press “Separate vocals and instrumental” and, when it finishes, download the instrumental. The separation runs on our server, so there is nothing to install.

Is this vocal remover free?

Yes, and there is no sign-up. The limit is 30 MB per file and 5 minutes per song. Because separating vocals is heavy work, the server handles one song at a time: if it is busy, try again in a moment.

How long does it take to remove the vocals?

A little longer than the song itself: in our tests a 5-minute song took about 7 minutes, plus the upload and any queue. Our server runs without a graphics card.

Is the instrumental completely free of vocals?

Not always. It depends on the mix: with backing vocals, heavily processed voices or a lot of reverb, some traces may remain. Listen with “Play preview” before you download it.

Can I also separate the drums, bass or guitar?

Not here: this tool gives you two tracks, vocals and instrumental. For 6 tracks (vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano and other), use the stem splitter.

Do you keep my song on your server?

No. The original is deleted as soon as the separation ends, and the two tracks can be downloaded for one hour; after that they are deleted automatically, so download them in time. Only upload audio you have the right to use.
